BREAKING NEWS: HERMÈS PRICES ARE CLIMBING HIGHER THAN YOUR FAVOURITE HEELS IN 2025

Ladies, gents and lovers of all things luxury, it’s happening. Yet again. Hermès has once again lifted its prices in both Europe and the United States, leaving us all clutching our hearts (and pearls?). Before we get into the details, watch the following video as Emily Abraham explains everything you need to know about the Hermès price increase in 2025!

Hermès Price Increase

Hermès Price Increase 2025 Round Two: What’s the Deal With That?

Hermès just pulled another fast one, raising US prices for the second time in 2025.

Yes, really. If the January hike wasn’t enough to shake you, this May increase might do the trick. From handbags to jewelry and even shoes, it’s open season on your wallets.

The first jump hit in January with a hefty 12.7% average. Now, in early May, handbags, jewelry, and even shoes are seeing another 4.4%–5.9% bump.

Here’s a breakdown of the latest Hermès US handbag prices as of May 5, 2025:

The Kelly Pochette, Birkin 30, and Constance Elan have also seen new tags, but not all prices are public yet.

Why the new price hike, you might ask?

Two words: tariff pressure.

Industry insiders suspect this round of increases is a response to rising import duties, as Hermès tries to navigate evolving US trade policy. Mix in continued high demand, and you’ve got the perfect excuse to up the luxury tax on dreams.

If we do a little math, US prices jumped up an average of 12.7% in January. Now with another ~5% bump in May, that’s roughly a 20% increase in the first five months of 2025.

Does it get worse? Only time can tell.

If you thought the Birkin was expensive in 2024, brace yourself, because in 2025, it’s got a price that may make you shed a tear or two. Here’s everything you need to know about the Hermès

The Tea on the Hermès Price Increase 2025

Hermès is known for its annual, first-quarter price adjustments and it’s safe to say they didn’t waste a second this year. By as early as the first day of the new year, shoppers in Europe noticed the price tags creeping higher. Just a few days later, the jolt was felt in the U.S. too.

But, let’s talk specifics because, well, we’re detail-oriented like that. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s happening:

Now, the 4 % price increase is definitely gentler on paper. With exchange rates and tax refunds in play, let’s just say shopping in Europe looks more appealing for US buyers.

For example, the price difference between a Birkin 30 in Europe versus the US has widened – from €2019 in 2024 to €3000 in 2025. That’s a savings worth hopping on a flight for (if you can snag a boutique appointment, of course).

Why The Price Hike?

Is it inflation? Labour costs? Or rising prices of luxury materials? Whatever you think it is, let’s be honest. We’re talking about Hermès here. They’re selling luxury bags, dreams of countless women across the globe, and they have to cash on that, right?

Another reason for annual price hikes is demand.  With Hermès bags harder to find than a good croissant outside of Paris, their prices are simply a reflection of their exclusivity. If women are willing to buy, Hermès is willing to charge.

The Real Question: What Next?

You sleep, eat and dream Hermès, but can’t really afford to dish out a wad of bucks. We got you. Here’s what you can do instead:

Shop Smarter, Not Harder

Remember that flight we mentioned? Well, we weren’t joking.

If you’re in the U.S., now might be your chance to book that much-awaited European getaway. The relatively smaller price hikes and the favourable exchange rates all mean that snagging your Hermès dream bag could save you a couple of thousands.

Plus, let’s be honest, “I got it in Paris” has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Turn Your Purse Into an Investment

If you already own a purse, you’re in luck since now’s the perfect time to strategise. You can easily turn a rarely-used piece in your purse collection into cash or trade it in for another.

Consider Smaller Wins

When we think of Hermès, we usually think of the Kelly or the Birkin. But, let’s not forget they’re so many other iconic bags. Take Picotin or Evelyne for example. They’re just as luxurious, without the hefty price tag — of course.

Hermès Price Increase in the US 2024

Birkin and Kelly bag sales are restricted to just two bags per year per customer. This exclusivity is exactly why Hermes religiously increases its prices every year, especially in the US.

How the Hermès Price Increase Had Impact the Secondary Market

The Hermes price increase has had a major impact on the secondary market, specifically the Birkin and Kelly models.

Continued Demand for Investment Pieces

Hermès bags, especially the Birkin and Kelly, are considered investment pieces that hold their value well in the secondary market. The strong demand and limited supply will most likely lead to even more growth in the pre-owned market for these iconic styles.

Shift Toward Lower-Priced Luxury Goods

With the price increases, some consumers may prioritise spending their money on “affordable” luxury goods. For example, instead of buying a pre-owned $5,000 Chanel handbag, they may opt for a $2,500 Wallet on Chain. This “lipstick effect” is seen in the luxury resale industry each time there is economic uncertainty.

Tipping Point for Consumer Pushback

It’s also possible that Hermès and other luxury handbag brands will reach a tipping point where consumers start pushing back on the price increases. If this happens, it could lead to a drop in demand in both the retail and resale markets. Of course, the ultra-wealthy will still continue to demand the most rare and exclusive Hermès handbags.

Hermès Dominates the High-End Market

Despite the price increases, Hermès still dominates the high-end luxury handbag market. Chanel’s prices have reached levels close to Hermès in recent years, but its bags still fetch less on the secondary market. Even Louis Vuitton still struggles to sell significant amounts of handbags priced above $4,000.

Why Did Hermès Increase Their Prices?

According to the brand’s official statement, Hermès increased its prices in response to global inflation. The price surge was a strategic move by Hermès to address the rising costs of raw materials and labor. Plus, we all know that the global market is also experiencing major inflation.

Conclusion

The Hermès price increase has added a new dimension to the resale market. With the right knowledge, you can find quality pre-owned pieces at competitive prices. If you, too, want to get your hands on a more affordable Hermès item, you should have a look at some pre-loved stuff.
